Today’s UK was awesome.  We talked about Angels!!

Did you know Jesus had an angel with him on a dark night?   That’s right, we read Luke 22:39-46.  Jesus was praying very hard and an angel stood next to him to give him strength.  What did he need strength for you ask?  Well, he was about to die on the cross.  He asked God for his will to be done.   It’s a great story.

We must rememeber that God places many angels in our life.  He also places stop signs in our lives so that we can chose the right things.

What’s your God-Size Stop Sign?  When your mom tells you to do something and you want to do something else…does a stop sign go up?

Love the angels for they love you.

It’s Father’s day today

Even though we may not have our father’s in our life right now, we always have God the father.  He will never leave us and always love us.

We learned a lot today.  Characters stopped by to tell us many stories about how we easily get rid of God in our lives when we aren’t suppose too.

Our main Bible lesson was the story of the Wheat and Weed told by Jesus.  What an awesome parable!

We look forward to the rest of the month because Wednesdays is Faith month.  We see by faith, not by sight.

The coming Sundays will now include awesome videos and dvd lesson thanks to Pastor Mikey and his church!  We now have a video projector and screen.  Thank you Mikey!

We are back.  The underground kids minstry has been growing and growing since our last post.  We have had up to 40 kids on a Sunday!  Amazing, praise the Lord.

This week we learned about:

-Building our homes on solid foundations.

What does foundations mean?  It means the very beginning of our life has to be solid.  We make it solid from prayer and listening for the voice of God.

Memory verse: A storm will blow a bad person away, but a good person will always have shelter.  Proverbs 25:10

Hi Everyone!!

This week was all about Courage: The Beginning of Sin.

We read Genesis 3:1-9 about Adam and Eve and their dangerous move into sin.

Our Memory Verse:

“I confessed all my sins to you, and stopped trying to hide my guilt.”  Psalm 32:5

Our kids loves Jesus and it was really cool to see them dump all their sins into our “sin bin”, which was a garbage can passed around by our own garbage lady.

Keep on Lovin’

Hi Again!

Another week has come and gone, but we’ve learned so much!

Today was filled with vistors like forgetful Fran, frustrated Frank, Jeffy, Niles and more.

Dr.Cool taught us a very cool memory versus:

“There are friends who destroy each other. But a real friend sticks closes than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

We learned all about the importance of Friendship. Luke 11: 5-8 was taught and the UK kids learned how to be the best friends they can be.

We also took time to honor Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. He was an important man who we are thankful that God blessed us with. Happy Martin Luther King day to everyone!

See You Next Week,

Brendan and Shelby Maidment

and the UK team

P.S. If you are reading this and are part of the UK, then answer this special question:

What is true friendship all about?

Write it on a piece of paper and give it to brendan or shelby on Sunday for a special prize!!!

Wow! UK was amazing today because of all our wonderful children.

Topic: David’s Self-Control

2 Samuel 16: 5-13

Our Memory Versus: “Let us examine and look at what we have done. Then let us return to the Lord” Lamentations 3:40

We welcomed Crystal to the UK for Sundays. Glad to have her here. She was a big help to our discussion of self-control. We learned that if we fill our lives with good things we won’t have any room left for sin and bad habits.

Thank you Jesus for the ability to know what is right and wrong! We love you!

Looking Forward and Praying First,

Brendan and Shelby Maidment

and the UK Team

P.S.~ To see if any of the kids are looking at this blog, answer the question below on a sheet of paper and give it to Shelby.

What did the grumpy teen (that we met on Sunday) do to have a mood change?

Today, our in house musician Spencer came and told us the story of The Good Samaritan from Luke 10: 30-35.   The kids loved the story and learned how to “do the right thing”!

Our Memory versus for today was :  When a person knowns the right thing to do, but does not do it, then he is sinning ~James 4:17

The finished up the day by creating bookmarks with the memory versus on it!  How exciting to bring home such a precious little gift!

Love,

This Sunday the kids all learned about Daniel’s 10 Day of Proof.  The kids started the day with a game of King Says…a little like Simon says.  We followed it by doing some great worship to some of their favorite songs.  We had a few visitors who were rewarded with candy for their visit. :)   They all seem to like candy for some reason. We started a new game this week called Who’s Who?.  Who’s Who  is a great game for the kids to learn all the names of their fellow undergrounders.   It was very fun!Stanley the puppet stopped by to tell the kids a quick story about being tested.  He has such a good heart, even though he has a grumpy looking face.  We love our Stanley! The Bible lesson came from our “theatrical director” Mrs.Kieferland.  She was a great teacher and taught the kids how to accurately act out Daniel 1: 3-17.  She sure knew how to get the point across…she’s very dramatic!

Our memory versus was:

“I know the plans I have for you” says the Lord. “Plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”.  Jeremiah 29:11 It was a great Sunday!  We are so blessed to be in this city with these kids!We can’t wait for this Sunday when we teach about The Good Samartain.  How fun!Love,The UK Team

This was perhaps our greatest Sunday to date. The kids did a wonderful Christmas production that included the acting out of the Nativity Story and the singing of “Go Tell It On The Mountain” Hamtramck Style.

After the production, the kids went downstairs to learn about the origin of Saint Nicolas. Directly after talking about it guess what!? He showed up! Santa Claus himself visited the UK and brought stockings filled with candy. The kids had an opportunity to teach Saint Claus their memory versus.

Our Memory Versus was: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16

The kids sang Santa their favorite song, which is “Jesus in My Life“. Finally, they learned the second part to the Christmas story for Luke 2:8-20. The kids were really excited to know that Jesus was born!!! Yeah!!!

We passed out little goodie baggies to the kids to help them have a merry Christmas. They received lots of beanie babies, crayons, chalk, hats, gloves, and many other fun gifts. :)

We love our kids and we are so thankful to have them down in the Underground Kids. Thank you parents and guardians for the opportunity to work with beautiful and wonderful children of God.

Here’s to a new year of the Underground Kids!! Can’t wait to see what 2008 will bring to the Glory of God.

Love,
